Unfortunately, Girls Who Code cannot appoint a Facilitator to your Club. While GWC provides the curriculum, tools, and support to run a Club, each Club is run by volunteer Facilitators identified by the host organization.
The minimum requirements to be a Club Facilitator are:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Pass a background check (or confirm employment by the host organization).
- Be available 2-4 hours per week (including travel & prep time) for the duration of the Club.
Use the following strategies to find volunteers:
- Consider Interested Groups. Volunteer Facilitators can come from your local community. Try reaching out to Parent-Teacher Associations or local tech companies. You can also post on volunteer boards and community newsletters.
- Connect with Local Colleges. Colleges and universities often host computer science groups. Search for your local college or university’s student clubs, and connect with students to ask if they’re interested. You can also try emailing computer science departments about prospective volunteers.
- Create Opportunities for High Schoolers. High schoolers often run their own Clubs (under adult supervision) or establish and lead Clubs for younger kids in their community. This is a great way to bring free computer science resources to your community while creating critical leadership opportunities for young people. Clubs operating under this framework still need 18+ adults to complete the Clubs Application and supervise as Facilitators.
