We are glad you asked! Here are a couple of factors we recommend to consider when applying for our summer programs for 2022:
What is your experience in computer science?
Are you new to computer science? Do you have some computer science experience? If you consider yourself a beginner or new to computer science, either of our programs is an excellent place to start. If you are interested in more intermediate CS coursework, are a senior in high school, or are a SIP or Self-Paced Program alum, our Self-Paced Program also offers an intermediate track in cybersecurity.
What is your availability this summer? Do you require a flexible schedule?
When considering which program to apply for, availability is essential to consider. Our Self-Paced Program can be a good fit for students who prefer to work independently at their own pace, have summer jobs, or have any other competing priorities. The Summer Immersion Program is a good choice for students who can dedicate their time to a two-week live program. Students can find more information regarding when our programs run here to determine availability this summer.
What year are you in high school?
Students in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade can apply for our Summer Immersion Program. Students in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade can apply for our Self-Paced Program. International students ages 14-18 can also apply for our summer programming.
Are you a SIP or Self-Paced Program alumni?
If you are returning SIP alumni or currently in 12th grade, you are only eligible for the Self-Paced Program. However, as a graduating senior, the flexibility of the Self-Paced Program can accommodate a busy schedule.
To summarize, the Self-Paced Program is the best fit for 12th-grade students, SIP alumni, and students who prefer flexibility in scheduling with any level of computer science experience. SIP is the best fit for 9th-11th graders with beginner or intermediate CS experience who can attend a live, two-week program. Students with a little more experience in Computer Science will find the Self-Paced Program a great option since it also offers an intermediate track.
Can’t decide? Applicants can apply for all programs where they are eligible using the Summer Programs Application. However, students can only participate in one summer program.
