The virtual Summer Immersion Program runs Monday to Friday (except holidays) and is designed to be fun, engaging, and educational. Each day will feature class time, individual work, and activities that promote learning, sisterhood, and collaboration. We offer optional Student Hours for extra support and help with weekly projects. The program includes Partner-sponsored events, teamwork, coding exercises, and the chance to work on final projects.
In the 2-week Game Design track, you'll dive into the world of games, design, and coding! In Week 1, you’ll learn game design basics and create small games using p5.js, a JavaScript library. You'll build an interactive avatar, a choose-your-own-adventure game, and a collection-style game. At the end of the week, you’ll playtest one of your games with your classmates and get feedback for improvement.
In Week 2, you’ll have just 4 days to design your own game in a GameJam-style challenge. You’ll use everything you’ve learned to create a game based on a surprise prompt. Along the way, you'll learn about user experience design, rapid prototyping, and playtesting, and discover various computer science careers. At the end of the program, we’ll showcase your games and celebrate your work. All materials and projects will be available to you before each class.
