Yes, 3rd-5th grade students do to need register on HQ, with the assistance and oversight of their parents.
Although 3rd-5th grade Club curriculum does not rely on HQ, we still want students to create an account for several reasons:
- Resources & Support: HQ registrations are how we identify how many students are in a club, and the level of support and resources each Club needs, such as t-shirts.
- Parent Participation: We want to ensure that parents are aware of what their children are working on. HQ is a collaborative environment that allows parents to stay in the loop about what their child is learning and doing in their Club.
- Ongoing Support: As students advance from 3rd-5th grade Clubs to 6th-12th grade Clubs, they will receive expanded access to the wide variety of resources that are contained within HQ.
- Access to the Clubs Fund: The Clubs Fund is a support program offered by Girls Who Code to help with the costs of running a Club. All 3rd-12th grade Clubs with three or more members enrolled on HQ during each of your hosted academic semester(s) are eligible for the Clubs Fund. Please note: Unfortunately, the deadline to qualify for this program has already passed for the 2019-20 academic year. Stay tuned for updates in the fall!
3rd-5th grade students may be enrolled in their Club on HQ in two ways:
Facilitators may use the "Invite Students" button on their own HQ homepage, using the parent or guardian’s email address. (Recommended)
Facilitators can provide the Club Code to students and parents, and have families complete their HQ registration independently.
