3-5th grade Club Facilitators have access to a set of lesson plans, activity sets, and resources on HQ. Using these materials, they will decide on a goal for each meeting, and work towards that goal using the lesson plan.
The lesson plans revolve around the two Girls Who Code's books, our non-fiction book, Learn to Code and Change the World and our fiction book, The Friendship Code. During the lesson, girls are encouraged to be brave, show off their creativity, and work together to build teamwork skills.
Here is a sample lesson plan components for a typical Club session:
- Build Sisterhood
- A form of icebreaker or introduction to what the girls will be doing that Club session.
- Read & Reflect
- The girls will read a suggested passage from Learn to Code and Change the World, and discuss related questions.
- GWC Challenge
- Club members will work together to complete one of the suggested activities that connects to the passage they read.
- Wrap-up on topics covered for that session and brief intro for the next meeting.
